In einem Dorf in Jaku­ti­en leben zwei unvoll­stän­di­ge Fami­li­en ein­an­der gegen­über, bei­de ohne Müt­ter. Der schüch­ter­ne und ver­schlos­se­ne Ivan wird stän­dig von sei­nem selbst­be­wuss­ten und domi­nan­ten Nach­barn Dima gede­mü­tigt. Nach­dem Dima Ivan vor des­sen Sohn ver­prü­gelt, ver­liert der Teen­ager den Glau­ben an sei­nen Vater und ver­bringt immer mehr Zeit mit dem Tyrannen.

Dmi­try Davy­dov (geb. 1983) ist Regis­seur, Dreh­buch­au­tor und Pro­du­zent, gebo­ren im Dorf Amga, Repu­blik Sacha (Jaku­ti­en). Er schloss sein Stu­di­um der Grund­schul­päd­ago­gik ab und arbei­te­te etwa 20 Jah­re lang als Leh­rer, Psy­cho­lo­ge und Orga­ni­sa­tor von Kin­der­ak­ti­vi­tä­ten. Davy­dov dreht sei­ne Fil­me in der Regel inner­halb von 14 Dreh­ta­gen, meist wäh­rend sei­ner Feri­en. Er arbei­tet oft mit Lai­en­dar­stel­lern und legt dabei mehr Wert auf ihre Natür­lich­keit als auf klas­si­sches Schau­spiel.
Im Jahr 2014 dreh­te er den Film Bon­fire, der 2016 sei­ne Welt­pre­mie­re auf dem Busan Inter­na­tio­nal Film Fes­ti­val fei­er­te. Sein Werk ist bekannt für Mini­ma­lis­mus und die Dar­stel­lung ein­sa­mer Men­schen, die sich von ihrer Umge­bung unter­schei­den. Sein Stil umfasst Ele­men­te der Distan­zie­rung, beob­ach­ten­de Tech­ni­ken sowie eine Mischung aus christ­li­chen und heid­ni­schen Motiven.

In a vil­la­ge in Yaku­tia, two incom­ple­te fami­lies live across from each other, both without mothers. Timid and unre­spon­si­ve Ivan is con­stant­ly humi­lia­ted by his bold and self-assu­red neigh­bor, Dima. After Dima beats Ivan in front of his son, the teen­ager beco­mes dis­il­lu­sio­ned with his father and starts spen­ding more time with his bully.

Dmitry Davy­dov (b. 1983) is a direc­tor, screen­wri­ter, and pro­du­cer born in the vil­la­ge of Amga, Sakha Repu­blic (Yaku­tia). He gra­dua­ted with a degree in ele­men­ta­ry edu­ca­ti­on and spent about 20 years working in schools as a tea­cher, psy­cho­lo­gist, and orga­ni­zer of children’s acti­vi­ties. Davy­dov typi­cal­ly com­ple­tes filming wit­hin 14 shoo­ting days, working during his vaca­ti­ons or holi­days. He often col­la­bo­ra­tes with non-pro­fes­sio­nal actors, pre­fer­ring to empha­si­ze their natu­ral qua­li­ties over tra­di­tio­nal acting skills.

In 2014, he direc­ted The Bon­fire, which had its world pre­mie­re at the Busan Inter­na­tio­nal Film Fes­ti­val in 2016. His work is known for its mini­ma­lism and por­tra­yal of lonely indi­vi­du­als who dif­fer from tho­se around them. His style incor­po­ra­tes ele­ments of detach­ment, obser­va­tio­nal tech­ni­ques, and a blend of Chris­ti­an and pagan themes.
